Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. (Revelation 5:11)
That’s how many angels are encircle the throne of God.
They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang:
Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! (Revelation 5:11)
That’s how loud the singing is around the throne of God.
And when we pray, it slices through all of that noisy glorious celebration…and we get God’s ear.
(Pause to comprehend that.)
Be encouraged today that as you bow down or look up to pray, Your words are valuable enough for God to hear.
- Do we think about that?
- Do we cherish that?
- Do we take advantage of inviting all of that glory into our lives?
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
We gain that entrance in two ways….
First through the Lamb that was slain.
Through Jesus we can have a personal relationship with a holy God because Jesus paid the full payment for our sin.
Second, by dying to sin.
Once we are a child of God through Jesus, we gain greater access to God’s ear by walking with Him and crucifying the sin in our life because He was crucified for it.
Do we consider that?
How can I practice anger, pride, hypocrisy, envy and gossip and still expect my words to slice up through all of that noisy angelic glory and get God’s ear without interference?
Psalm 66: 18 says, If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
An explanation of this verse in the Treasury of David Commentary is chilling to me: If, having seen it to be there, I continue to gaze upon it without aversion; if I cherish, I have a side glance of love toward it, excuse it, and palliate it; the Lord will not hear me.
Yes, we pray to a loving God but can forget our prayers are aimed at all that holy glory too. In Jesus we can receive access to both the love and the holy, but we have a responsibility to live as the light of the world in order to fully enjoy the gift of prayer.
The more I comprehend God’s holy glory, the more I hate sin. I want it gone from my life.
I want to enjoy getting God’s ear every day….the ear of God
- who sent Jesus,
- who runs the universe,
- who is holy and perfect,
- who cannot make a mistake, and
- who loves me dearly.
Prayer is not a casual activity.
Prayer is a treasured gift to be opened with awe and responsibility.
We can invite that heavenly glory to earth through prayer!
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness.
Miracles, God-sized lives, faith, wisdom and knowledge.
But not if we don’t understand who we are talking to, and not if we don’t understand the miracle it is that we get to talk to Him.
Lord, forgive me for the vague, thoughtless, fake prayers I have sent your way in my life….not stopping to think who I was talking to, not recognizing the miracle, not understanding that how I live my life matters. Thank you for sending Your Holy Spirit to dwell inside all of Your children so we can access the power to live lives that are bright lights for You.
Thank you for hearing that prayer, straight up through the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.
And Lord, I turned 54 this week. Not really loving that fact. I wore exercise clothes to breakfast to illustrate my continued resolve to take better care of myself but the battle of middle age is winning (and I haven’t exercised since my birthday).
I need “readers” to enjoy the beautiful letters my children write me in the beautiful cards they select (or make).
My book is large in vision but still small in sale. My blog is a joy for me but to many others.
I.FEEL.LATE.
I.FEEL.SLOW.
I.FEEL.BEHIND.
But I am encouraged today that the God of angel-surrounded glory….
knows me,
hears me,
loves me,
and gave me this path to walk with this group of people.
Lord, may I honor You with my life and play the perfect role in the glorious light show you are orchestrating with all of Your children around the globe.
You get to pick how I am to be used best in Your story because You know everything and cannot make a mistake.
Never let me go.
Never let me lose the wonder I already possess that I have a relationship with You.
May you always be enough.
Thank you for also hearing these words shot straight up through the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.
Love, Laurie

Laurie, thank you for this prayer. So true, that we need a larger picture of who God is, and more appreciation of the privilege we have.
BTW, you are as beautiful at 54 as you have been for the 31 years I have known you! Beautiful on the outside, but especially on the inside.
I LOVE YOU!
Thank you for the kind words, my friend, and for the decades long friendship. I love you back.
