He is Risen!

Happy Easter, everyone!

Because of today, we know Jesus can conquer death,

so we know eternal life is real. Our faith in the existence of heaven is not in vain.

Because of today, we know Jesus really is the Son of God,

so we know the blood shed for the forgiveness of our sins on Friday did the job.

Bask in the glorious truth of Jesus.

  1. Dear Laurie,

Thank you ever so much for your faithfulness to blog, never missing one Sunday in over ten years. I know you didn’t start Oaks just to set blog record though. You started Oaks hoping God would use it to change lives. My life and my walk and my knowledge have all benefited and been enriched because of your faithfulness to water my roots each Sunday at 4 AM.

I am a different man having watched Oaks grow, rooted in your burning desire to help all us live our dots of a life well. And only I had the honor of watching your heart turn into a book and a Bible study enjoyed by women from Atlanta to Indonesia — groups circled with bibles open in their laps. Well done, my sister.

Last, but not least, I became a Christian at 39 years old on the running trails because of your ability to translate God’s Word for me. And yours were the only eyes I searched for while proudly emerging from the waters of baptism at Chattahoochee Baptist. You’ve gently spoken into my life every single day for over three decades, never stopping even when I couldn’t hear you. To that end, I hereby publicly dedicate my new heart to my Soulmate ❤️‍🩹

    1. Dear John,

Oh my, sweet man, what words to read on an Easter morning! Thank you. Most Christ followers live lives of anonymity, walking faithfully even when no one watches or notices. Every once in a while, God gives us a glimpse of what He might be up to with our lives. He doesn’t have to, but it helps us to keep putting one foot in front of another as we try to honor Him while life is hard and feels long. Your words today provide a glorious glimpse of how God can use a wife and a woman who desperately hopes that “the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

This is about the best Easter letter a person can receive. Thank you for seeing me. Thank you for witnessing my life. May God richly bless your new lease on life with a new physical and spiritual heart. I love you.

  2. So blessed by John’s reply to blog. It makes my heart sing. Please give him hug for me.
    Love Always
    Ethel

  3. True and meaningful post, beautiful pictures, and I especially love the poignant comments exchanged between you and John. What a good, good God!

Planting and Watering

I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes growth.
