Cast all your cares on him because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)
Lately, I have had so many things coming at me from so many directions that I become overwhelmed by not only the sheer number, but also the complexity of each situation. When I imagine praying about them, I don’t even know where to begin.
But there’s a solution!
God already knows the number of problems, and more importantly, He is intricately familiar with the complexity of every situation, so we don’t have to tell Him the details!
We can cast!
When I looked up various definitions of casting in fishing, I found in definitions like THIS one that casting is the act of throwing a lure or bait into the water using a fishing rod, reel, and line.
But get this!
The goal of casting is to place the bait or lure where the fish are. This is a significant piece of the definition.
Casting is done with aim!
Probably like you at times, the cares of this world are too heavy to carry on our shoulders, and we are powerless to help in any practical way besides listening or providing some financial assistance. What else can you and I do?
We can cast prayers!
My prayer times have been looking silly lately. I am glad there aren’t any video cameras capturing what I look like. I have been sitting in my big green chair next to my bed pretending to cast like a person who is fishing. Each time I cast, I imagine flinging the problem with perfect aim onto God’s shoulders instead of mine.
(Cast) I cast the finances of so-and-so on You.
(Cast) I cast so-and-so’s relationship with so-and- so on You.
(Cast for each one) I cast my anxiety about such-and-such…the health of so-and-so…the bill for such-and-such…my relationship with so-and-so, etc.
While I am casting away — my right arm mimicking the cast of a fishing line with each request — I am casting my cares on the only One who really understands each of the items I am worried about and the only One who can do anything about it.
Lighten your load today, and cast.

Timely and wise advice as I too am dealing with numerous huge problems right now, the weight of which are incredibly heavy. I need some casting practice!
Practice away!
Oh, Laurie, such a good reminder and word….love the image of casting; letting it go with an aim….I needed this today. so grateful…..
The aim element delighted me, too. Cast away!
Hi, Sweet Friend. This is so good. When we don’t know what to say or do, we can cast! Cast your cares on him because he cares for you. Isn’t it interesting to see the play on words here, at least in English? Cast your concerns on him because he is concerned for you. The noun and the verb. The very thing that is difficult for us is not difficult for him. Scripture is brilliant. I love it. I love you!
So glad you enjoyed this! I wish more people knew how fun Scripture is!
This was perfect timing. A friend and I were discussing this week her situation. I will send her this. I have read “cast” for years. We all love to fish and the visuals are perfect.
Thank you for your deep dives into the Word!
Happy Trails and Trials❣️
Ha! I have already done some more casting this morning. I, quite honestly, don’t know what else to do right now. Spread the word, and spread the Word!
I have been thinking about you a lot lately and was getting ready to reach out. So glad you are still out there. I like having you around!
