Groundbreakers

Matthew 5:16 (NIV) “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Am I the only person that has felt like a lonely Christian? Sure, there are a lot of people that don’t know Christ yet, but the Bible makes it clear… Heaven is going to be very crowded. After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb… Rev. 7:9 NIV

Besides being dispersed around the globe (James 1:1), I believe we can’t see each other for two main reasons:

As indicated in Matthew 5:17, our lives are to point people to Jesus, not ourselves or others. Many of us hide our faith when we know our spiritual lives don’t point people to God. Perhaps we are living two different lives – one lifestyle around our Christian friends and another around those who don’t know Christ yet. Perhaps we have an area of our life that does not line up with God’s way and quite frankly, we don’t want to let it go.

Whatever the reason, we stay underground.

Some Christians let their strong faith show every day. They know a lot about the Bible and live great lives for Him, but the world can’t see such faith lived out because those Christians aren’t rubbing shoulders with anyone who doesn’t know Him yet. The world can’t see Christians if we are always hanging out with other Christians.

In other cases, we get nervous to tell people about our faith. Perhaps we worry about what people will think or not being able to answer questions. Perhaps we refuse to exert the effort necessary to leave the busy world we are comfortable with to go find people who don’t know Him yet.

I say, “ENOUGH!” I am striving and praying for stronger faith every year, and I am striving to be transparent about my faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, it’s official!

Is anyone else out there tired of feeling lonely? Anyone else out there weary of knowing there are more Christians than we can see? Anyone else observing weak faith in others or seeing people shrink back from lending their voices to conversations about Jesus?

Let’s decide to fill the earth with Christ followers who have strong faith and are a beautiful witnesses to a watching world! My book, Live ABOVE the Chaos, culminates with the following declaration. If you can’t sign it today, that’s okay. You may want to check out my book and do some thinking about this dilemma.

That They May See

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Dear Lord,

Now that I understand better that …

  • I did nothing to deserve hearing about Jesus (Romans 10:14).
  • I have nothing without Jesus and am on level ground with every human being at the foot of the cross (Ephesians 1:5, 2:4–5, 8–9; Colossians 1:13–14).
  • The chaos I experience is contained in a dot of time so brief that the last blink of my eye represents its brevity (Psalm 39:5)
  • Eternity is safe and You are guarding it with cherubim and a flaming sword as I read this (Genesis 2:9, 16-17; 3:6-7, 22-24).
  • Satan’s power is limited and short (Revelation 12:12; Mark 1:34; Job 1:12, 2:6; James 4:7).
  • I can spend my time in heaven doing many things except for telling more people about Jesus (2 Peter 3:8-10; Thessalonians 4:16-18).
  • “Tomorrow” all of this is over and I will truly live happily ever after (Revelation 21, 22:1–5).

I give you the dot of my life.

To the God Who asked me to exchange my dot for the string,

I surrender my life today in order to be used for Your purposes instead of mine.
