Through Jesus, the earth was created (Colossians 1:26), but at the bidding of His Father, He left the grandeur of heavenly places and was tucked inside in Mary’s womb to develop and be born.
Why?
- To dwell with us. (John 1:14)
- To show us who God is. (John 14:9)
- To die for our sins. (John 3:16)
- To raise from the dead to conquer death. (I Corinthians 15:3-8)
- To model for us how to walk with God. (John 5:19. As Jesus copied the Father, we copy Him.)
I am not sure how all of God stayed contained in so little flesh! Of course we saw God “leak out” as miracles were performed, circumstances were handled with wisdom that awed bystanders, and all manner of social constructs were challenged as Jesus modeled a new way.
This was no ordinary baby. The baby born today was King Jesus!
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. (Isaiah 9:6)
Let’s enjoy the description piece by piece.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
- To us. Jesus was sent by God to us. For us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
- Our government on earth is not His government. How we are governed is not how Jesus governs.
And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
- All of these titles. God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity.
His government and its peace will never end.
- Never end. Never, ever end. Eternal. Our life on earth will end, but not life with Him.
I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful celebration of baby King Jesus.
Picture Explanation: A flood happened in our home this year, so Christmas decorations didn’t happen, but I send you my home at Christmas in years past.
