Prayer for a new baby

And sometimes the post gets to be short and happy.

On average, there are 250 babies born every minute around the world. This adds up to over 130 million new human beings entering the world every year. But each human being has been carefully crafted into an image bearer of God.

Like this little one.

Our family line grew by one new member this week. Perhaps you can share in the prayer for your little ones as I offer the one I prayed for ours this week.

Father in heaven, thank you for our newest little addition to the family that you knew before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), and whom you formed in his mother’s womb (Psalm 139:14). Before any of us knew of His existence, you knew about Him for a few weeks, even before his mother, my daughter.

I continue to trust you with our family line. I know at times we look so messy that prayers for wholeness, healing, and Kingdom glory seem silly, but not to you. By faith, I keep praying. Wrap Your hands around this little one and never let Him go. I pray a bubble of protection around him, that no evil, thought, intention or action would touch Him, just Your precious hand. As his life unfolds — no matter what that looks like — may nothing prevent him from living out the good purposes for which He was created (Ephesians 2:10).

Father, You raise him. May His parents seek You for wisdom and work diligently to raise him in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, but You get the glory for his life. Guide him to be a person that loves God with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength, and loves his neighbor as himself. (Matthew 22:37-39)

As a grandparent, I commit to pray and love this little one as I am invited into His life. May I accept invitations with graciousness and respect, and show nothing but unabashed love for this new family of three whenever I am with them. Wherever you take them — near or far — may all of my communication demonstrate consistent love, wisdom, assistance, generosity, prayers and service for not only the newest one and his dad, but also for his mother, who will forever be my child.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Picture Explanation: As Valentine’s day week begins, I am delighted that from this week going forward, when I see hearts all around in stores, it will mean my grandson’s birthday is drawing near! How fun. May we all be reminded of the only love that is perfect — God’s love. People love us too, but people make mistakes with us. God never does.

Speaking of the good purposes for which each of us is created…

  4. What a beautiful prayer and a beautiful baby, Laurie! Big congratulations to all! Yesterday I had the pleasure to go visit a friend in my small group who had a prodigal daughter they hadn’t seen for a couple years and the other day, the daughter showed up out of the blue, and had a baby two days later. Rather than being angry at her daughter, my friend and her husband welcomed her home with open arms and now have not only her back, but a little one living in their home. It was beautiful to see!
So happy for you and your family! You will be such an amazing grandma to this little sweet boy! Happy praises!

  5. Congrats to you two, your daughter, her husband, and the whole family! I prayed your prayer for my granddaughter! What a wonderful Valentine’s Gift!

Planting and Watering

I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes growth.
