This is a thank you to all the bright lights for Jesus in the world who are not famous. Your Instagram followers consist of family and friends only. No one recognizes you on the street. You go to bed each night exhausted, and wake up the next day to a routine, one you have been keeping for years. You invest in the same spouse and children year after year. So many people don’t know who you are, but the world is seeing Jesus in you.
Thank you.
To the Occupational Therapist that works hard and tells his co-workers that this weekend he is taking his kids to activities and on Sunday his small group from church is coming over and he is grilling.
Thank you.
To the father I saw in Wal-Mart today. You were walking down the Easter aisle holding your little girl’s hand. Surrounded by shelves of Easter baskets, plastic bunny toys and plastic eggs, I heard you say to her, “You know what Easter is about, right? It’s about Jesus!”
Thank you.
To the family who is allowing a batch of noisy teenage boys over to their house this weekend as part of an in-town church retreat, the noise and dirt and lack of sleep is worth it. God is doing amazing things in the heart of each of those boys this weekend that will count forever.
Thank you.
To the teachers who view their class rosters as a prayer list. To the managers that pray for their people and desire to reflect the character of Christ to all they work with. To the Sunday School teachers who show up for their little people each Sunday to teach them about God.
Thank you.
It feels like we are alone, but there is no way we can comprehend the army that we are. God can see us, and we are many.
Picture Explanation: I have been doing a lot of thinking about how soccer has threaded its way through our family over the years. We have benefited greatly from this sport. We have memories together as a family, much of college was paid for, and both girls are still playing in adult leagues in their mid-twenties. This one, however, took a leap of faith and tried out for the Chicago Red Stars women’s professional team this week and was one of five to make the reserve team! This gives her a mighty good chance of being a professional player by the end of the year.
